More Info
I purchased this book to help me conduct research on my masters' thesis, hoping to just get a few quotes out of it - you know, space filler. Instead, I was pleasantly suprised by its detailed stories of life on a personal level, something that many texts on this subject lack. This story is not a novel. It does provide stories of how life is conducted in the rural areas of Southeastern Siberia, often based on interviews by the author with farmers and their families. To supplement the personal stories (or vice versa), the author also provides guidance into the cultural, social and political side to land use and reform efforts in recent years. The work is not long, at only a little over 130 pages. However, if you would like to get an easy grasp of what life is really like in this region, as well as an excellent overview of what the issues concerning land rights are, this book is for you.
