More Info
More than anything, this is the must read book for any Russian who deals with Americans, a new generation person who learns to live in the international business environment. The book, in my opinion, reads like an extended Harvard Business Case - concise, factual, and very informative. Besides learning the useful tips on living in Russia, dealing with Russians, you will get an insight into our Soviet culture. I think that the author did a really great job at understanding us, the former Soviets. What we now need to do is translate it into Russian and have it sold in Moscow - Moscovites will love it. :) Any other books coming out soon, Mr. Harper??

Since I am very interested in present day Russia, I really wanted to like this book. And in fact, I did enjoy much of it...especially the colorful accounts of doing business in a city like Moscow. But after a while, the read got bogged down in excessive business details. That was endurable the first few times but soon became too much. I then found myself skimming over the last third of the book. A little went a long way. The book would have been much more enjoyable if the author spent more time delving into the atmosphere, unusual characters, etc. and less time laboring over each business transcation and the "red tape" trama that went with the Russian territory.
