This is a predictable addition to the Modern Masters series: this one about Chagall offers a taste of the artist's work and life. The overall busyness of these books is distracting and dissatisfying and they will not win awards for good writing. The many reproductions are adequate in terms of color, but they are small and cluttered on the page. It provides quick information and a context for the artist's life and work. Artistic, cultural, and historical influences are all mentioned, which, in a work so brief, is very useful.
